Course Overview

This qualification provides a trade outcome in wall and floor tiling for residential and commercial construction work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, wall and floor tiling. Tilers work with materials like ceramic, glass, slate, marble and clay. They cut these materials and lay tiles on walls and floors, both interior and exterior. They may also add decorative touches to their basic work.

Occupational titles may include:

  • Tiler
  • Wall and Floor tiler.

State and territory jurisdictions may have different licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.

This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.

Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Entry Requirements

International Students

Completed equivalent to Australian Grade 12, and demonstrated English proficiency level as per below:

  • All students must be over 18
  • Achieved IELTS band 6 *(with no individual band below 5.0) or equivalent score in acceptable English Language Tests (PTE, TOEFL, or OET) Or Minimum test score IELTS 5 or equivalent with either 20 weeks ELICOS.
  • Completion of Certificate IV or higher-level qualification in Australia in the last two years Or
  • Achieved satisfactory score in English placement test as conducted by the College (Level 3 or higher in CSPA ACER LLN test will meet the requirements for this purpose)

*You must have completed the English language test within either:

  • the 2 years before the date your visa application is lodged.
  • the 2 years before a decision is made on your visa application if you did not provide evidence of the English language test at the time your application was lodged.

We offer everyone the opportunity to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) at enrolment. Students may be granted credit or partial credit in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or prior training.

Course Structure

Total number of units = 20

17 core units plus

3 elective units, of which:

3 elective units must be selected from the elective units listed in TGA National Training Register – CPC31320 Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling

or

  • 2 from listed electives and 1 from any endorsed Training Package or accredited course, as long as it contributes to a valid, industry supported vocational outcome and supports the AQF level of this qualification.

Elective units must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the integrity of the AQF alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.
